Cruel Crown, by Victoria Aveyard

Victoria Aveyard captured us with the Red Queen series and despite that series’ satisfying conclusion you would not be alone in wanting more. In Cruel Crown’s two short stories Aveyard answers the silent questions we’d all been asking throughout the Red Queen books and brings us a deeper understanding of this cruel universe.

From the perspective of two of the silent main characters from the Red Queen series here are the untold stories from their perspectives. While we didn’t know their stories before through reading Cruel Crown we realise how much of an impact they and their lives had on the series overall.

From the blurb:

“For Coriane of House Jacobs, love comes at a terrible cost. In a secret diary, she recounts her heady courtship with the heir to the Silver throne, Prince Tiberias, and the dangers that lurk at the heart of the royal court.

Captain Farley is at the forefront of the Red rebellion. As she plans an attack on the Silver Capital, she discovers a secret that could sway the balance of power for ever.”

Victoria Aveyard is an amazing writer. Her imagination and the depth of her universes is astonishing to read. She can captivate and spell any reader. Her characters always feel real, their struggle relevant and their incredible abilities only add to the amazement that comes with her stories.

We would not advice missing out on these short stories. Though we wish they were longer the impact they have on the Red Queen series overall makes them completely unmissable. Aveyard truly shows the depth of thought she puts into her characters and her world with this incredible collection.

We Give Cruel Crown Five Stars.
